Who We Are
In order to sustain our activities, we regularly review our goals as an alliance. These objectives are subsequently prioritised by us, and we then advocate for these priorities in all our interactions with government and regulator. We use a traffic light system to track progress the made in each objective and this is transparently shared with all stakeholders.
The members of the alliance acknowledge that there are certain issues which each member needs to address individually and it is fully understood that we must make specific approaches to tackle these issues. However, it is important to emphasise that these necessary approaches will not in any way detract from our unified goal of presenting a single voice on our strategic objectives.
The first area is controlled through a DfT and industry forum which meets regularly throughout the year. Many of our challenges have implications for multiple government departments, and the DfT acts as a facilitator for fostering the necessary discussions with interested parties. In nearly all cases there is little that can be achieved without the support of more than one government department.
In the second area, we have an established forum facilitated by the CAA which is supported through the Director of SRG. Like the DfT example above, we have an established forum which is managed through a flight operations focal point. However, all other CAA departments are invited to participate based on the relevance of the topic under discussion.
The final area is still a work in progress and is influenced by both the politics of the day in the UK, and ongoing discussions with the EU, as well as any potential future negotiations for bilateral agreements.
The General Aviation for Business Alliance’s aim is to unite with one voice to ensure that the right issues are presented in the context of both business and regulatory matters. Historically, aviation has mainly focused on regulatory aspects, neglecting other crucial areas. Through this alliance we are now concentrating our efforts on three key objectives:
